• How it worksA CO2 laser uses a gas mixture that includes carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, and sometimes other gases. An electrical discharge excites the nitrogen molecules, which then transfer their energy to the carbon dioxide molecules. This process creates an avalanche effect, where each photon that hits a carbon dioxide molecule creates a twin photon.
